Himalayan Balsam Eradication Project

This is the 5th year of the Himalayan Balsam Eradication Project from the Pigeon Lake Watershed. This plant, which has the provincial classification of a "prohibited noxious weed" has invaded our shoreline from gardens where it was planted as an ornamental flower. We are well on our way to eradicating this plant and will continue to patrol the shoreline on a weekly basis this summer. The plant is easily identified by its three shiny leaves and pink flowers. If you see this plant, please help eradicate it by following the protocol which was developed at Pigeon Lake: Pick, Break and Drop. If you find this plant at any location off the shoreline, please notify the summer village office so that follow-up action can be done by the eradication team. To help prevent the spread of noxious weeds, please do not dump beach refuse in the bush.

If you require any information on noxious weeds, contact the Summer Village’s weed inspector Barb Gerolomy.

Herbicide Ban

Alberta has banned the sale of lawn-care products that combine herbicide and fertilizer. The ban was effective on Jan. 1, 2010.

Garbage Removal

WEEKLY pick-up occurs on MONDAYS during summer months beginning May and runs up to and including October 6th, 2014. Please call Tom Rogers at MCL Waste Systems @780-352-2625 for concerns regarding garbage pickup, broken wheels, or any reapairs required.

Please do not put household garbage beside your garbage tote.  It will not be picked up as Maplethorpe has an automated system.  Please also ensure that the lid on your tote is tightly closed.  Do not leave your lid  open due to animals and birds spreading your garbage around.

Sunnybrook Transfer Station

As of March 1, 2014 the Sunnybrook Transfer Station is no longer accepting the orange Transfer Station cards for dumping at that site. You will now have to purchase a dump card(s) at the Summer Village Office for a fee of $10.00 per card. The card is a one-time only use. The attendant will be collecting the card in payment of services when attending at the Sunnybrook Transfer Station..
